A newsgroup is an electronic bulletin board on the Internet. Newsgroups can help
reporters find specific people, identify expert sources and listen to conversations of
particular interest groups.
One of the most popular Internet tools for journalists, DejaNews was purhcased in 2001 by
Google. The advanced search function allows users to search more than five years worth of
archives (650 million postings as of fall 2001) on more than 50,000 discussion groups.
Searches can be conducted by topics, author or e-mail address.
