reached at www.state.??.us, with the question marks standing for the two-initial state
abbreviation.
State Agencies. Many state agencies can be reached at www.???.state.??.us,
with the first set of question marks representing the agency's abbreviation and the second
set representing the two-initial state abbreviation. For instance, the New York State
Department of Transportation would be www.dot.state.ny.us.
County Governments. Many county governments can be found at www.co.???.??.us,
where the first question marks represent the county name and the second set represents the
state abbreviation. For instance, www.co.fairfax.va.us is Fairfax County, Virginia.
City Governments. Many city governments can be found at www.ci.???.??.us,
where the first set of question marks represents the name of the city and the second set
represents the two-initial abbreviation for the state. For example, www.ci.boston.ma.us is
the address for Boston, Mass.
Public Records. Pacific Information Resources has
put together a site that links nearly 12,000 searchable public record databases nationwide,
broken down by state. FOI audits

State Campaign Finances.The National Institute on Money
in State Politics has available a database of state campaign finance records for
selected states, searchable by candidate, individual donor or one of 115 special-interest
groups. Meanwhile, the Campaign Finance
Information Center, run by Investigative Reporters & Editors, links to currently
available campaign finance databases on the state level.
State Legislators Disclosure.The
Center for Public Integrity's 50 States Project provides actual personal financial
disclosure documents for individual state legislators.
State Legislatures.
The National Conference of State Legislatures provides this link to bills,
statutes, legislators and other legislative data in all 50 states.
State Data Centers. A Census Bureau site
that links directly to the various state data centers.
Stateline.org. Stateline.org, a news service
operated by the Pew Center on the States, is designed to help journalists by producing
in-depth stories on state-based public policy issues.
Maryland General Assembly. Legislative site
includes full text of bills, legislative status, hearing schedules, legislator profiles
and other information.
